UPDATE: JUNE NEWSLETTER FROM BBSC

Dear Players and Coaches,

I hope this email finds everyone healthy and coping well under these unusual circumstances. As you can imagine, many of us are very anxious to get back on the field and play some sports. Whether it is finishing up our season of Basketball or starting a fresh season of Softball. All of us are looking forward to some social time outside of our home. It has been a challenging spring and early summer with the cancellation of school and summer camps. Our daily lives and routines have been totally uprooted.

As promised in our last email, I am getting back to you with an update for June. The purpose of this letter is to let you know of some updates and where things are at, as of today. There are so many questions regarding the summer of 2020, and our goal at B'nai Brith Sports of Canada has always been to remain transparent and honest during this process with our communications.

BBSC supports our government and the measures it is taking to bring the safest outcome for all of us. As a result of the Ontario Government shutdown, all summer outdoor permits and sports facilities have been closed since mid-March and the question is when and if the Government will allow these facilities to reopen, and under what conditions?

B'nai Brith Sports is working on contingency plans to deal with a shortened season. We have been in constant contact with the City of Toronto and Vaughan. Both cities have stated the season has not been cancelled and that a potential opening is slated for early July. At that time, we will have new COVID-19 rules in place and an adjusted schedule. It goes without saying; if there ever was a time for SOFTBALL and a great "night out" with friends, THE TIME IS NOW!

How will a shortened season be handled?

Softball will proceed with temporary COVID-19 rules in place. We are scheduling for a shortened season plus a condensed playoff. We are told a lot of this decision-making will depend on Parks and Recreation and our local governments decision regarding isolation standards. BBSC feels that the Softball season of 2020, if permitted to proceed, will be a very important season as members rely on an evening with friends to help relieve the daily stress' in life. Never have positive in-person social interactions been so important and needed.

How are team fees being adjusted?

Once the season is permitted to proceed, a lower team fee will be calculated. We will refund the excess amounts to those teams that have paid in full. Those teams with deposits only, will top up their full team payment. Players will complete the membership dues process.

B'NAI BRITH SPORTS OF CANADA: will refund 100% of any deposits, and all team fee funds paid for summer 2020 if the government decides that B'nai Brith Sports of Canada Softball cannot open.  We cannot, however, refund your membership dues, as those are fully tax receipt-able payments. As a non-for-profit organization we will always put our members first over and above our own financial situation.  We would therefore ask you to await any decision this may regard.

We always seem to feel that Jews are great "Arm-chair quarterbacks" when in fact, we have been very prominent in many sports!

This is a great story, hope you enjoy.
